FREE TEA AND TOAST…

We’ve had our first power cut for a year today, I don’t know why the power should be off, we’ve only had a little bit of snow, but like all power cuts they always seem to be just as you were going to boil the kettle for tea or coffee, or just as you were about to turn the computer on, they normally strike at theย  time of maximum inconvenience!!

This mornings power cut was just at breakfast time, now were seasoned country folk we don’t need any modern things like electricity to carry on with our day, a pot of tea placed a top the wood burner for ten minutes and a few slices of bread thrown on for just a couple of minutes. Then buttered and strawberry jam, 40 minutes later the electric came back on.

We were saying to each other, actually why don’t we do this all the time anyway, its free….Why do we use electric for tea and toast when we don’t have too, we’re still conditioned to modern ways I suppose!!

The dogs certainly like running about in the snow, not us though, feet up in front of the fire for Linda and I today.

    • Hi James,

      Cheers,

      Dave….

  2. I would never have thought you could do toast in that way, I dont know why lol

    • Hi Simon,

It was actually Bob from Canada’s idea about the toast, apparently that’s how they did it back in the old days!!

      Cheers,

      Dave….

  3. Please dont write again how low your winter heating bills are lol. suppose you can put pans on it if you had too??

    • Hi Donna,

Yeah don’t see why we couldn’t balance a pan or two on there, its certainly hot enough to cook whatever one wanted!!

      Cheers,

      Dave….

  4. Uncle Dave:

Yes, we had a sawdust burning stove which was on all the time, as it was also the central heating. A pot of water was always near boiling as it was on top of the cast iron top. to make toast you just did what you did, put bread on top and it would be toast in minutes. so water and toast was free. Our job was to keep the sawdust hopper FULL. Gravity feed but you had to use a poker once in a while to “help” it into the flame part

I thought you were offering FREE Tea and Toast, but how to get there, you’ll have to send airfare

    • Hi Uncle Bob,

Unlike Turkey, Bulgaria has working post, I’ll get Linda to make up some more toast (Strawberry jam ok?)and post it off to you, much cheaper than air fares ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Cheers,

      Dave…

  5. If I had a wood burner in the flat I would be trying that tonight, thanks Bob and Dave lol

    • Hi Graham,

We see on the housey programs that wood burners are now finally coming to the UK, about 200 years behind most of Europe, very cheap heating compared to gas or electric!!

      Cheers,

      Dave….

    • Hi Gary,
