A PIGS FUNERAL

Vic and Marie are back from the states visiting their parents here in Bulgaria for New Year, we received an invite last night from Vic to attend a pigs funeral today, do you wear black, we wondered to ourselves!!

It’s an old Bulgarian tradition to slaughter a pig at New Year, and a Lamb at Easter we learned today, the day started early preparing the pig for the table, any vegetarians reading this blog might be interested to learn howย  a Bacon sandwich is made!!

The pig was slaughtered at the farmers house where it was bought, then put on a trailer and driven to Vic’s parents house for final preparations, firstly all the hair is burnt of using a blowtorch.

A long laborious job, but you continue burning until the pig turns white.

Linda and Jordan with Porkie.

Once Porkie turns white the carving begins!!

Vic ran out of charcoal so he came over to our house for some, I didn’t know if I had any but with a quick rummage in the workshop we found some.

Lunch was great, Porkie did herself proud!!

all I can say is Wow ! It’s sort of like going into a restaurant and you see all these aquariums filled with fish and crabs just waiting . . .

Pigs are smart, they probably know what is happening. If I were a pig I think I would starve myself

    • Hi Uncle Bob,

Its just what the Aborigines used to do in America during their cowboy days, catch a wild something, pluck/skin it then roast on an open fire. Vic wanted photos and for Porkie to be put on the internet, these old traditions are dieing out fast, but Porkie will now live on forever, in the ether of the internet ๐Ÿ™‚

      Cheers,

      Dave….

    • Hi Berge,

Vic is very much about preserving the old traditions here, if hes back from the States in Easter I dare say there will be a lamb or two featured here!!

      Cheers,

      Dave….

    • Hi MD,

Pig nuts are the size of footballs so pretty easy to see compared to a cat lol, Porkie was a lady pig!!

If you fancy investing some of your loose change (150k Lev) in essential oils, someone in our village is after an invester.

    • Hi Uncle Ian,

Been busy working mate, finished the kitchen now started on my dungeon at long last, made a wall out of an old beam and left over wood and plasterboard, Rooney gave me an old door too, so now the dungeon is closed off from the rest of the house and can be heated without all the heat wafting away up the stairs.

No other investment will prize me away from my beloved shares, but thanks for the thought…..Also there is a carpenter retiring here in the village and he is selling all his machines, I remember you saying you intended to have a carpentry workshop on your estate, if your interested I can tell the chap your here in a few weeks.

      Cheers,

      Dave…..

  11. I hope Ian last longer than John did!!…Got any finished photos of the kitchen yet, things are a little slow around the office at the moment lol.

    • Hi James,

Ian is accustomed to life without a maid and a dishwasher, I feel sure he will last longer, he is also brilliant at DIY, cars and bikes….In fact its only because I’m taller and better looking that I’m not jealous ๐Ÿ™‚

      Cheers,

      Dave….

  12. Guess he should have got himself a maid in Bulgaria to fix his house up!! So where’s all these kitchen photos then?

    • ….They’re coming, just doing a bug sweep at the moment, it slows the computer down…Trying out Ad-Aware (Lavasoft) for the first time, I want to see if it finds any extra bugs that my other two bug killers might have missed.

  13. Maids, that does explain a lot!! What are you going to use the ”Dungeon” for lol ๐Ÿ™‚

    • 8 extra bugs so far!!….The dungeon is going to be my office and maybe home cinema area, got to finish the rest of the house first though!!

  14. Taller maybe, better looking, No Chance !!
By the way when is Ian moving over there ?

    • Hi Sally,

Well I have more hair ๐Ÿ™‚ …..Ian will be here in about 9 or 10 weeks time to start work on his place.

      Cheers,

      Dave…..
