SPOTTED!!

Whilst out on a run to Myra a couple of days ago with Theo, I …..or rather my bike was spotted in Kalkan and posted on ADVrider. Dickyb (Dave) with his many years of army training in surveillance, plus his  time in the jungles  of Asia during the Vietnam war, crept up on us and snapped a couple of paparazzi style photos, neither Theo nor I saw anything, anything at all, he obviously disguised himself as a tree, or a building!!

Thankfully I was not picking my nose or re-arranging the family jewels at the time I was snapped lol. Dickyb (Dave) has  blog on ADVrider detailing his off-road riding in the hills and mountains of Turkey called….. DickyB’s Turkish Delight Many nice photos!!

I asked Dave (Dickyb) why he didn’t come over and say ”Hi,” but then I remembered he’s from Yorkshire, and the price of a cup of Chai (Tea) would have stopped him in his tracks.

    • Hi Bob,

Is it famous or infamous lol……shall have to start wearing my sunglasses more!!

      Cheers,

  3. Hi Dave,
I think you have to watch your step… Big brother is watching you…

    • Hi Baris,

Yes…Big Brother is everywhere lol…..I put some of my videos on VIMEO, if you go to my PAGES section on the right side, click MY VIDEOS you will see VIMEO, click VIMEO and then you can see them in Turkey 🙂

      Cheers,

      Dave….

go for the Premiere Elements (PREL). You don’t need a powerful computer. I do all my editing on a 3 year old laptop, AMD 64×2 only 1.6 MHz which is slow by today’s standards, and it works just fine. I recently read some video editing reviews and PREL was neck and neck as being No 1 as compared to Pinnacle Studio 12. The added benefit is that you can ask me questions which I may not be able to answer

    bobskoot: wet coast scootin

    • Hi Bob,

…It must be telepathy, even though my PC does not come remotely anywhere near the requirements for Adobe P.E.7, I thought ”What the hell” and ordered it anyway…along with Pinnacle 12. Been playing with Corel studio 12 and Power Director 8, 3 versions of each (Aaaarrrgh) these past few nights…Corel’s good in the edit stage, but in production there are no useful formats for YT really…its all about Youtube lol.

P:D:8 is good for YT, but the editor is not as sophisticated as Corel’s…..There’s always something lol.

      Cheers,

      Dave….

  5. Dave:

I find that PREL works just fine. and I don’t use the YT presets. I save to Mpeg2 640x480p 2.5 Mbps. You can select all these parameters for output and save as a custom preset, that way I can just “click” and it automatically does its thing.
Ever since YT changed their file upload sizes I don’t worry about it anymore. It used to be 100 meg max, now it is 2 Gig max. FYI that last video: Sounds of Pike Place was 101 Megs for just around 4-1/2″ minutes. taken with my Canon FS200 flash camcorder with 41x optical zoom with dolby stereo

    bob
    bobskoot: wet coast scootin

    • Hi BOB,

Yes, agree with you, with the exception of WMM, all YT presets everywhere are just dire…..I have to wonder when the writer/programmers come up with all this software, do they even bother to test it, let alone consumer test it!!….It does go a long way to explain the poor quality of most YT videos…And another thing….when you go on YT’s website for the formats they desire, they will tell you H264 or mpeg4, again, both of those formats produce rubbish results lol…only mpeg2 works lol.

It was a nice quality video Bob, I should have got myself a proper video camera when I was in England last month…Ahh well, next time lol

      Cheers,

      Dave…

whatever make or model you are looking at, check out their opinions first. I didn’t like the JVC interface, the laser touch screen was too touchy. I settled for the std DEF Canon FS200. It is very good

Thanks for the link I shall study it all before making my choice.

  7. …can I have your Autograph 🙂

  8. Dave:

Yes, an autograph for me too . . . but on the bottom of a cheque on the signature line. to make it easy for you I’ll fill out the top part

    bob
    bobskoot: wet coast scootin

    • Hi Bob,

..I wondered why so many people carried around those funny looking autograph books in the supermarket!!

Can’t have Pinnacle or Adobe, tried to install, but my PC needs some additional Microsoft software to run them…my computer guy is having another one of his lazy days/weeks/months and couldn’t be bothered, a very common problem here!!!

Power Director 8 is the most advanced programme my PC can just about cope with, so I’m going to stick with it until I find another computer guy.

      Cheers,

      Dave…..

  9. Dave:

There should be no problem installing Adobe Premiere Elements 7 or 8. Then you have to install the latest version of quick time. I don’t know if Adobe Premiere ELements (PREL) needs it but also install FFshow from download.com , it will install additional CODECS and there is another DivX stuff I have at home I can advise later. If you video will still not run then I will email you a very small utility which you can run to check your video file. It will give detailed info so you can determine what CODEC is missing. That’s what I did and then I went to free codec download something or other and got them installed. After all of this it worked. It only too 2 weeks to figure all this out on my own. What error message do you get when you try to import into PREL ?

    bob
    bobskoot: wet coast scootin

    • Hi Bob,

Tried to install on both mine and Linda’s but right at the end the error message comes up, something about Windows installer, so took it back to the pirate emporium, he tried it on his computer, no problem installed perfectly…I said I must have something missing from mine and Linda’s computer, can you get me the missing Windows software…he just could not be arsed to look or anything…so after a little arguing I presented him with a choice, give me my money back or get of your arse and sort it out…I got most of my money back, its only small money 4 Dollars, but the principle is huge!!

I had a look on the net regarding Windows installer…there are soooo many, I dont understand much about the inner workings of a PC, so decided to leave well alone until I find another computer guy.

I re-made the Santa Claus Ride in PD8 yesterday, image stabalisation plus gamma correction etc…very nice DVD quality on the pc, but cant get it up to YT anymore…8.5 minutes came out at 600 plus Mb, that takes 10 hours to upload on our slow Turkish internet, keeping the internet connection un-broken for 10 hours is a miracle in its self lol…on the third attempt (Yes 20 hours later) YT said they dont support my format (mpeg2)..bastards!!!

Soooo, re-made it again in H264, wmm wmv and mpeg4 (smaller file size) and trying to upload to YT again, perhaps by Sunday I might have a video up lol

      Theres always something!!!

      Cheers,

      Dave….

  10. Dave:

    correction: FFshow should read FFDshow

    Luv, bob

  11. …Just what language are you guys talking, I dont understand anything lol

    • Hi Owen,

Now you’ve made your bike mount for a video camera…you will start to have to learn this new language the moment you upload your vids to Youtube lol…its a real pain!!!

      Cheers,

      Dave…

  12. Dave:

You must be missing a part of your windows O/S. You should have a boot drive for the windows and move your current drive to secondary, this way when there is a problem you don’t have to back up all your data.

I am also attempting to edit AVCHD format but my PREL freezes as soon as I add the clip to the timeline, but plays perfectly clear while viewing in monitor mode. I had to download a FREE AVCHD to AVI converter. Everyone on the Canon forum us using Koyoto sofe and it is great. You are able to change bit rates, formats, resolutions, etc. you should give it a try. I think it works both ways. You could “downsize” your YT DVD mpeg2 codec into a smaller AVI file for uploading

With my AVDHD project is only around 3 minutes and 750 megs, I’m trying to reduce it to somewhere around 300 megs. I have bit rate set at 6 Mbps right now but going to try 4 Mbps.

here is the link for your FREE converter, Version V2.5
    http://www.koyotesoft.com/indexEn.html

I used it yesterday, lots of conversion options and it works. I get very clear HD video 1280x720p, now my problem is to reduce file size for YT upload

    • Hi Bob,

Come the revolution, the first people I will have up against the firing squad wall, will be the owners of Youtube, they say 2GB, but its not, they say all formats, but its not….I have I mentioned I hate YT lol.

Oooh AVI, not tortured myself enough with that format yet, I shall try AVI again tonight then, thanks for the link Bob…MPEG4 is kinda working for me at the moment, might fiddle with the bits tonight and see if res improves.

      Cheers,

    • …LOL::LOL…After all this, had a big crash (bigger than normal) all progammes gone, tried to re-install from disc but appears half my windows is now missing, presumed dead…LOL theres always something, looking on the bright side I still have the internet and WMM lol

Tried to roll back to last working properly (sometime in 2005 it was lol) but no joy……could be looking for a new computer guy in the morning…wipe it all off and start again!!!

      Cheers,

      Dave….Still laughing, but only just!!

    • Hi Bob from a computer shop in town lol

It gave its last gasp last night and my old PC is proper dead….Anyway I’m in town with it now, took it on the back of the bike in the rain, got here ok though!!

Took a look at Pinnacle and Adobe system requirments and have managed to cobble together a new old PC from bits lying around the workshop from broken computers ……at this moment my new old PC is 2.8G cpu plus 1.6g memory graphics card is 256mb.

New computer guy has more software and programmes than I’ve ever seen before, so fingers crossed should have a whizzy fast computer tonight or tomorrow.

      Cheers,

      Dave….

  16. Dave:

sounds good. Your new old PC will run circles around mine

    bob
    bobskoot: wet coast scootin

    • Hi Bob,

Back from the computer shop, only took 6 hours to sort it all out, I love my new computer guy, very efficient, no messing around, he was working on two other PC’s at the same time as mine, while I sat about the workshop drinking their tea and eating their lunch, there’s nothing better than Turkish hospitality!!

He copied my hard drive to another PC then wiped mine and started all over again, added a few scrap bits and re-loaded, this time its XP with all the service packs and updates ever in the whole Wold lol. He offered me Windows7, but I would rather wait to see what people make of it first, since its so new.

I’m now back home, re-installing all my progs and software, PD8 and Pinnacle went straight on my new old super computer with no problem, ordered PREL 7 from him on disc, that will be next week some time.

I dont know how people can think Pinnacle 12 is the best…Its just not that good really, PD 8 is much better, you can custom set almost everything, I tried out Pinnacles image stabilisation and it was terrible, very low quality!!

      Cheers,

      Dave….

  17. DON’T DO IT!!…..Please dont you guys start talking computer language as well, video language is hard enough lol.

    • Hi Stan,

OK!!…will not ramble on too much about computers, but if you change your mind, just let me know lol.

      Cheers,

      Dave…

  18. Dave:

You should have gone with Windows 7, very efficient, fast, uses less resources and all XP stuff works on it. GOOD REVIEWS. I used to use Pinnacle studio something, but I like PREL 7 a lot. I have a new camera and it produces AVCHD 720p30, I have a HD video up on YT and it is stunningly sharp. I’m saving it for my Christmas post, so don’t try to find it YET.
Keep away from Youtube.com/user/bobskoot , thanks

    • Hi Bob,

      A Christmas Special….promise I woen’t peek…..well mybe just a little lol.

I’ll go for Windows 7 next time then..I will put that Santa Ride back up here again, now its been re-edited with PD 8, the image stabilisation really works, I kept the amount of stailisation low because it just looked too unnatural being a silky smooth ride on a bike….Got the Paramount film logo and Linda modified it for me, I now have my own Travels With My Motorbike trade mark lol.

      Cheers,

      Dave……

  19. Dave:

get Linda to make me one too with the sound of the Lion roaring

Hug her first, and I’ll return the hug when I see you

  20. Thank God this thread is over…Gobbledygook…Dont tell us how you make them, JUST MAKE THEM LOL!!

    • Hi James,

Yes, it can be a little tricky to understand, but I feel compelled to learn as much as I can…..I’ve learnt enough now!!

      Cheers,

      Dave….

  21. Mate, your a famous blogger now…..well, at least locally lol

been lurking for a while, just had to comment on this one!!

    cheers Pete.

    • Hi Pete,

Well it had to happen sooner or later….But I will not let it change me, I will remain modest lol.

      Cheers,

      Dave….

  22. Dave:

I don’t think that all these lurkers understand what we are trying to do. Once I get it figured out all I want to do is to produce edited movies. It sounds easy, sort of like this.

transfer video clips to computer via USB or card reader
    edit movie
write to DVD or upload to Youtube

sounds easy doesn’t it. For pictures it is easy, ONE format, ONE file type .JPG and that’s it

for movies every manufacturer uses a different coding. Even .AVI means nothing. My new HI-DEF camera uses AVCHD .MTS , all the Canons use motion Jpeg. .MOV . My Panasonic uses .MOD

as you know, none of these work on the free Windows Movie Maker. Even if you purchase a video editing program, such as Adobe Premiere Elements you have to do a conversion first, before it will import.

anyway, glad you got your new old PC working. And give Linda a BIG HUG for me for the Universal Pictures Statue of Liberty

    luv
    bob
    bobskoot: wet coast scootin

    • Hi Bob,

Yes agree completely……sounds easy but is not!!!…with Pinnacle 12 you also have to convert before importing, it only recognizes a couple of formats, pants really….PD 8 recognizes everything on my new old PC, so I save one conversion at least.

The ”new old” Pc….or is it, ”old new” PC…whichever it is, it’s not only zooming along at warp factor 10, but can do two things at the same time now, I’ve noticed something a little strange though, My YT videos now look a little better, they seam just a bit sharper and the colours more full…..Strange!!!

      Cheers,

      Dave….

  23. Dave:

We are brothers of a different mother.

Today I went out to watch all those pidgeons wondering which one had “the envelope” I was waiting for. How long does it take a pidgeon to fly from Turkey to Vancouver ? Did you tell the pidgeon that I will be the one holding a camera ? I’ll keep another eye out again for tomorrow. I hope those tickets get here real soon or else you will have to save some of that Turkey for me.

    bob
    bobskoot: wet coast scootin

    • …It’s too soon to be looking for the Pidgeon post…If I’m correct in thinking that Canada is somewhere near America, then its a long way for the pidgeon to fly, must be 300,000,000 miles from here at least……..AND remember it’s a Turkish pidgeon, smokes 40 fags a day, drinks 50 cups of chai, and always hides in the shade……could take a while!!!

Vancouver??? you never mentioned Vancouver before, is that near Canada??? Could dispatch a second pigeon to catch the first pigeon, and instruct him 2 degrees starboard when he reaches the Atlantic!!

      Cheers,

      Dave….

  24. ..Now your making videos as well, you could change your blog title to: TRAVELS WITH A MOVIE STAR…just joking mate, its real nice blog you have got going here, love the dry humor lol.

    Pete

    • Hi Pete,

I think you could be on to something there…I just need some sun glasses, an open shirt, and I’m there lol..

      Cheers,

      Dave….
