DAY 28 – ON TO CARTAGENA

Today is just a miles day, the  next place of interest to us is Gibraltar, a couple of days ride away at the very least, it was good to have a day off from riding yesterday, Linda did some badly needed laundry, and I just lounged around the beach, interspersed with bouts of eating and sleeping. So onwards, I want to be South of Cartagena when we camp tonight, then we are within striking distance of Gibraltar.

We are taking a mixture of both motorways and secondary roads, its nice to have the choice in Spain.

On the way to Valencia are these very unusual building, I am not really a fan of Modern architecture but these were very stunning and strangely beautiful to the eye.

A little further on we then passed mile up on mile of rice paddy fields, I thought rice only grew in Asia until I saw this.

The high rise blandness of Benidorm was not a temptation, we carried on by, the roads though were very busy around Benidorm.

Towards late afternoon we had passed through Cartagena and we were roaming around Mazarron looking for campsites.

The first campsite we rolled up to turned out to be for ”Naturists”  only…..I was game, but Linda was having none of it, so off we rode again looking for another campsite, on reflection though the Naturist camp would most probably been just wrinkly old people and ill looking Vegetarians weaving straw hats.

As luck would have it, we found a very nice campsite about 20km further along……and we could keep our clothes on !

Through the Internet on the ADV website today, we had a message from Jaq, his BMW bike has broken down and can not be ridden, the drive shaft , he has had to return to the UK,  someone helped him put his bike in a pick-up truck.

He said he will be  back in England again for 10 days while he waits for new parts for his bike, he will also use this time to think about his trip and decide where to go next, we will carry on as per our plan, we can not wait the 10 days for him unfortunately, time is money !
