DAY 12 – ENGLAND Brrrr…..

We had our first shower in over a week at the motel last night, it was very welcome, Linda even washed our socks etc in the bathroom sink, clean clothes, a shower, and a soft bed…..luxury!!

Our plan for today was to call in on friends who were at home today as we made our way up North, first port of call Mark and Ola, just of the M25 London ring road. Both of us again found the weather very cold and the strong Northerly wind did not help, we just could not believe our eyes when we saw people walking around in T-shirts, we were frozen, guess we have acclimatised to the hotter weather in Turkey.

Driving on the left and going the opposite way around roundabouts was still messing with my head.

Mark and Ola had a hot cup of Tea and Bacon sarnies waiting for us…Bliss!

Back on the road again after a few hours chatting, we headed back to the M25 until the A1 North road appeared. We were supposed to call in at both Chelmsford and Norwich, but no answer on the phone when we rang up, therefore it was straight up the A1 for a few cold hours then the M62 to Hull and my mothers house.

We had to stop at quite a few motorway service areas to warm up and drink coffee, we had all our layers of clothing on, but to us England was colder than high up  on the Alps, we did not arrive at my mothers until after 7PM, but a nice Bacon sandwich was waiting.

I’ve had Spanish lodgers in the past gasp in amazement at the t-shirt culture. They were even more amazed at the skimpy dresses and sandals worn by British girls in the winter, even in snow.
As you say, acclimatisation is the thing.

    • Hi Andy,

Yeah….So cold here, I wear two pairs of trousers and three jackets, its still not enough…

  2. Was that your first nights sleep in two days?

    • Hi James,

Yes that was my first sleep, I was so tierd it was as though I was drunk.

      Cheers

      Dave..

  3. I thought that you would have gone around London Dave, but then again I expect you just wanted to get up North to see your family.

    • Yeah, just head straight up to see mother, we will see a little of London on our return trip.

      Cheers

      Dave..
