OFF-ROAD IN THE DALAMAN HILLS

Just Theo and I went off-road into the hills today, nobody else wanted to come along, we were not frightened, we are the adventure riders !

The highest points in this area according to geological survey maps are around 1,700 meters, we wondered to ourselves how high can we climb in just two hours.

The views over the hills and mountains were magnificent, we must have kept stopping about every ten minutes to take photos.

Someone rang Theo to check he was still alive.

After two hours of forest track we rounded a corner and suddenly the mountain that we were seeking suddenly came in to view.

We came down from the hills racing the setting sun, we did not want to be up here when in the cold and dark, our first stop on the way down was to ask directions from a farmer, our second stop after an hour was by an old building.

I thought this was an old Turkish house, but Theo said it was a well cover, so we looked inside and it was a kind of chapel of rest…….and it was very much occupied !! A body laid out and wrapped in a shroud, we ran away like a couple of girls back to our bikes and sped away, not knowing what we had seen.

FOOTNOTE:

Since first writing this blog I have discovered the small white building is called a TURBE and is a burial chamber for Holy people, apparently you would go there and make a wish of the deceased.
